1/2 C butter or margarine, softened
1 C sugar
1 egg
2 C chopped, peeled apples
1 C all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 C chopped nuts
Caramel Sauce:
1/2 C sugar
1/2 C packed brown sugar
1/2 C butter or margarine
1/2 C whipping cream
Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9" square baking pan. Cream butter and sugar in large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Add apples; mix well. Mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in small bowl. Add to apple mixture; mix well. Fold in nuts. Pour batter into prepared baking pan. Bake 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut in squares. While cake is baking, combine sauce ingredients in saucepan over medium heat. Boil, stirring continually, for 2 minutes. Serve over cake.
